Noises Off is a nostalgic ballad of a theatre that does not exist (anymore), at a time when no one knows what the future holds for theatre. The play within a play, notable for its situational entanglements and bravura comedy, presents the making of a theatre show and its performance. Chaotic moments and typified characters draw on the best traditions of meticulously constructed farces, and, using satirical humour, tell of times gone by, of a theatre that is present only as a memory of the past, as a vanished ideal.
