Igor Samobor got acquainted with theatre already at the secondary school in Ptuj in a drama society mentored by Branka Bezeljak Glazer and Marjan Kovač. He studied stage acting in the class of Professor France Jamnik at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television, University of Ljubljana and graduated with the role of pastor Manders in Ghosts by Ibsen for which he received the Prešeren Award for Students. Some of the many accolades that he received for his performances include the Prešeren Fund Award, eight Borštnik Awards and the Borštnik Ring Award for Lifetime Achievement in Acting. He has been a member of the SNT Drama Ljubljana resident ensemble since 1981 and its artistic and managing director between 2013 and 2021. He is a leading man and versatile interpreter of classical and contemporary repertoires, always displaying his sophisticated sensitivity for psychological background of his characters. His multi-faceted actor personality is outstanding in serious and comic genres, the most compelling being his perfectionist sensitivity for detail and well-measured, slightly ironic humour. He often appears on television and in films – his most noteworthy film roles include the awarded role of Dušan in 9:06 by Igor Šterk, and Robert in Class Enemy by Rok Biček.
