The plays by Tjaša Mislej and Pia Vatovec Dirnbek explore the issue of motherhood through complex stories, commentaries, and interesting situations. They explore society’s attitude and expectations toward individuals, and the life situations of individuals on the other. Through the symbiosis of two plays and the authors’ reflections on the position of motherhood in today’s society, we will address the question of duality in relation to this topic. How, then, can we think about mothers and motherhood today, within capitalist ideology? We will try to understand what myths we, as a society have created about motherhood and why ̶ in order to better understand this dichotomy against which we, as individuals, willingly or unwillingly take stance.
The productions Mama Is the First Word and The Spleen are supported by the Šeligo Awards Fund, granted at the 53rd and 54th Slovenian Drama Week in Kranj, which is dedicated to promoting Slovenian drama.
