Will in the World

2016 is the year of global commemoration of the 400th death anniversary of William Shakespeare, the greatest playwright of all times. To mark the occasion, Koda has published a Slovene translation of Will in the World by Stephen Greenblatt, internationally distinguished literary historian and founder of the so-called New Historicism. In his book Greenblatt brilliantly links basic biographical facts about Shakespeare with little-known historical facts from his life and the elements of his plays. The result is a narrative of a talented boy, born into a relatively prosperous family, who he had to leave school after his father’s financial situation deteriorated, and went on to devote himself to theatre. The book outlines the circumstances in which Shakespeare become a recognized and respected author and actor during his lifetime, a universal genius whose body of work overshadowed all of his contemporaries.

Hear about the life and work of the greatest playwright of all times through the perspective of his biography, Will in the World, discussed by its translator dr. Marija Zlatnar Moe and dr. Svetlana Slapšak, author and columnist. Excerpts from the book will be read by Igor Samobor, artistic director and general manager of SNT Drama Ljubljana and its ensemble member.

Join us on Wednesday, 23 March at 17.00 at the Drama Café. Tickets for the event (2€), co-organized by Beletrina and SNT Drama Ljubljana are available at the box office. Free admission for Drama Club Members. Due to a limited number of seats, book early to avoid disappointment.
