Hjalmar lives modestly but happily with his wife, his young daughter and his elderly father, that is making his ruined life content by giving shelter for sick and injured animals. The family’s only regret is that their daughter, Hedvig is rapidly losing her eyesight, and according to the doctors she will be blind by the time she reaches adolescence.

Gregers reunites with his childhood friend, Hjalmar after fifteen years. Gregers’ father, a former business partner of old Hjalmar is now successful and wealthy. Gregers cannot bear to see Hjalmar as a shadow of the man he once was. Determined to fix his friend’s life, so he confronts him with the lie he is living in. However, the revelation of their shared past has fatal consequences, for both fathers and sons…
