Thomas Bernhard (1931-1989) ranks as one of the most important Austrian writers of the 20th century. He started his career as a poet by publishing several collections of poetry. In 1963 he made a breakthrough as a fiction writer with his first novel Frost. It has just been published in Štefan Vevar’s translation by Beletrina Academic Press. Frost was soon followed by other novels and stories. After 1970 Bernhard established himself as a playwright. He was an extremely prolific author releasing a new book every year. He received many awards, including the Georg Büchner Prize (1970), the Mondello Prize (1983) and the Prix Médicis étranger (1988).

Štefan Vevar, translator of Frost, and Sara Virk, author of the introduction, will discuss the celebrated Austrian writer, well-loved by Slovenian readers. Excerpts from Frost will be read by Ivo Ban.
