Drama Festival premiered at the end of the 2013/14 season. In the following six years it rapidly won national and international recognition. Initially, it showcased a selection of productions by Slovenian theatres, made by the managing and artistic director, Igor Samobor, and the dramaturg Eva Kraševec. However, it soon grew to include international productions and sparked the interest of many theatres from the wider region. The sixth edition of the festival upgraded the non-competitive festival character by launching the Jernej Šugman Award for the best production selected by the festival audience. It was won by The Power of Darkness, by Leo Tolstoy, produced by the National Theatre in Belgrade, Serbia, directed by the untimely deceased Igor Vuk Torbica. The 7th Drama Festival was scheduled to take place at the end of the 2019/20 season but was cancelled due to the corona virus epidemic. Therefore, we announce again the 7th Drama Festival edition. May it bring a most successful theatre season to all theatre companies and may its closure see us once again celebrating theatre the way we like it most.
