Vojko Zidar studied stage acting at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television, University of Ljubljana. In the early 1980s, when he was a student of acting, he performed in five productions at the MladinskoTheatre in Ljubljana which was considered at that time a centre of Yugoslav theatrical and ideological breakthrough. He has been a member of the Drama Ljubljana resident ensemble since 1983 and has created more than a hundred roles of classical and contemporary drama repertoires. His collaborations with prominent international directors include those with Ljubiša Ristić, Martin Kušej, Slobodan Unkovski, François-Michel Pesenti and Silviu Purcǎrete; they all contributed to broadening of his horizon. His work is not strictly tied to his domicile theatre as he often appears as guest in other theatres too. He is occasionally involved in directing, and more recently in music and learning jazz guitar. He appears in films and on television.
