Wives in Dough is the winner of the Šeligo Award for Best Production of the 53rd Week of Slovenian Drama Festival. The competition section included seven productions shortlisted by Rok Bozovičar. The jury, composed of Tery Žeželj (chair), Diana Koloini and Anđelka Nikolić, decided unanimously to award the original project based on Slovenian folk songs, directed by Živa Bizovičar and produced as part of the programme platform Waiting for Superman (SNT Drama Ljubljana).

According to the jury, »Wives in Dough is a remarkably original project exploring Slovenian folk songs in a truly original way. A set of well-known as well as less familiar songs about female characters allows for an entirely new take on Slovenian tradition. Images of women, underscored by their cyclical nature, are placed in the period context of their creation, reconstructing old rituals and rites, while unobtrusively emphasising their modernity and emancipatory character of some of their motifs and themes.

The production skilfully uses ancient material and everyday life to construct fresh and authentic theatrical language. This consists of a very wide range of expressive means, conceptualized and co-created by the entire creative team of the production. The result is an exquisite collective of four women of different generations who support each other’s performance jointly and mutually, allowing plenty of room for compelling and unique acting creations.«
