The National Theatre of Miskolc, Hungary’s oldest and most prestigious national theatre, will present Ibsen’s renowned tragedy The Wild Duck on the Main Stage of SNT Drama Ljubljana for the first time. The performance will take place on Friday, 7 March, at 19.30.

Ibsen wrote The Wild Duck in 1884, and it has been staged in Slovenia only three times, most recently in 2000. The Hungarian production premiered on February 13, 2020. The play, A vadkacsa, was adapted from László Kúnos’ Hungarian translation by director and set designer Gábor Rusznyák and the cast. Ildi Tihanyi designed the costumes, while Ildikó Hadházi served as assistant director.

Cast: Ferenc Fandl, Attila Harsányi, Anna Mészöly, Júlia Fazakas, Tibor Gáspár, Dezső Szegedi, Erika Nádasy, Lehel Salat, Sándor Farkas, Valéria Kerekes, and Mária Takács.

About the Performance:
Hjalmar Ekdal lives modestly but happily with his wife, young daughter, and elderly father, who fills his broken life by sheltering sick and injured animals. However, the family is troubled by the fact that their daughter, Hedvig, is rapidly losing her sight and is expected to go blind upon reaching puberty. After fifteen years, Gregers Werle reunites with his childhood friend Hjalmar. Gregers’ father, once a business partner of Hjalmar’s father, is now a wealthy and successful man. Unable to accept that Hjalmar has become a shadow of his former self, Gregers is determined to help his friend by confronting him with the truth about his life. However, uncovering their shared past leads to devastating consequences for both father and son…
