A cup of literature in German, organized by the Goethe-Institute Ljubljana, is a series of inspiring events on contemporary literature of the German-speaking area. Experts, connoisseurs and lovers of literature present key contemporary works in the German language.
The first meeting of the season 2016/17 will host a Goethe-Institute Ljubljana resident author Rabea Edel. She grew up in Cuxhaven in the north of Germany and studied Italian and Literary Studies in Rome, Siena and Berlin. After long spells of living abroad (France, Italy, India) she now lives in Berlin. Her first book, a poetic novel, The Water We Sleep In (Das Wasser, in dem wir schlafen) deals with erotic confusion of a certain generation, was published in 2006. It was followed by her second novel A Dark Moment (Ein dunkler Moment) in 2011. According to the Nobel prize winner Herta Müller, »Rabea Edel depicts the feelings of derailment in ever surprising images. Her stunning dialogues and portraits are conducive to the creation of a novel dealing with a destructive power of addiction and the induration against one’s good fortune.« Edel, a recipient of several German literary prize and a grant by the Goethe-Institute Ljubljana is spending a one-month residence in Novo Mesto. She is working on a new project to be presented at the event in discussion with Brane Čop, literary translator.
