The new play by playwright and director Dušan Jovanović, written specifically for Milena Zupančič, Radko Polič and Boris Cavazza, is set in the sphere of intimacy. The theme of the play is a love triangle among a retired actress, her husband (a journalist), and her lover (a retired sea captain). However, the classic melodramatic plot of the play turns into a peculiar human comedy because of humorous dialogues and the bizarre character of the whole situation which strikes up passions of love and hate of the rather ‘mature’ protagonists. Each one of them is experiencing their own drama and hopes to get through it with the least damage done. Willy-nilly, they are forced to review their life. This involves youthful, almost forgotten passions as well as everyday routine, happy memories and numerous resentments along with all of the missed opportunities and unfulfilled wishes. Another two generations also take their position regarding the love triangle: the hot-tempered journalist’s mother on a mission to defend her son’s reputation and the daughter of the actress who does not seem to have any understanding whatsoever for love adventures of her own mother. In the background of the legal, erotic and moral dilemmas there lies the daily routine shared by the heroes. With funny situations and amusing dialogues, Jovanović draws attention—openly and without embellishing things—to the bitter side of life and human vulnerability. Indeed, ‘dangerous liaisons’ can surprisingly quickly shake the safe world we take for granted.
