The Slovenian first production of a bizarre operetta by the cult London group, The Tiger Lillies, directed by Ivana Djilas, is a virtuoso blend of a grotesque, gallows humour, falsetto singing, live stage music, puppet animation, dance and much more. This »junk-opera«, as the original authors called it, is based on an adaptation of Shockheaded Peter (Struwwelpeter, 1845), a picture book for children, written by Heinrich Hoffmann, a German psychiatrist, poet and author. His supposedly educational stories abound in quirky, morbid horrors that afflict naughty children. If you play with matches … you burn!

»This is theatre in the theatre for theatre aficionados; the first Slovenian production of this bizarre operetta constructs an effortless and smoothly-running harmony of all performing elements: ensemble acting, puppet animation, choreography, sound design, and direction that blends and elevates them by means of an accomplished familiarity with the genre. A morbid black comedy, a junk opera and a grotesque with the elements of the fantastic.«
