Tarzan and Jane in the jungle – what could possibly happen to this paradigmatic couple after successfully overcoming all obstacles on the way to love?
At first sight, exactly that which happens to every other couple: slight misunderstandings and disagreements, some jealousy, and perhaps even some weariness, especially due to the jungle and the uncomfortable living conditions. When the well-mannered and worldly Mike enters the game, the terrain is set for discord. As is often the case, several interests are at stake here. Mike charms Jane by selflessly supplying her with the goods of civilization, but this is just his way to the treasures hidden in the primeval forest. The dialogue of the play is light, skilful, and very funny at first sight; the comedy stems from a combination of typified characters and the unexpected situations they find themselves in. Yet the humour becomes more and more critical and the play, taking place in a seemingly faraway jungle, opens up many burning and very current issues of our materialistic world.
The comedy Tarzan, subtitled An Exotic Drama, was nominated for the Grum Award at this year’s 45th Week of Slovenian Drama and is the latest in a series of many theatre and radio plays by this established author, who writes under the pen name rokgre.
