Drama Reads literary evenings presenting Slovenian poetry will resume in September. The event will feature Svetlana Makarovič and Alojz Ihan. Svetlana Makarovič, born in 1939 in Maribor, is a versatile artist, writer, actress, singer and illustrator. In her poems she often paraphrases the motifs of Slovenian folk poetry to create and evoke a dark, uncanny, ballad-like atmosphere. Her list of publications includes more than 300 book titles, making her one of the most prolific Slovenian authors. She is also known for her political commitment and love of cats. Alojz Ihan, born in 1961 in Ljubljana, is a doctor, specializing in clinical microbiology and immunology, and a poet and author in his own right, parallel to his professional and pedagogical scientific research in medicine. In his poems he focuses on politics, science, aesthetics, and eroticism. He articulates everyday life and combines events and descriptions with fiction, fairy tales and biblical motifs and characters in an objectified way.
Kindly invited to hear a dialogue of two outstanding poets on Wednesday, 16 September and on Thursday, 17 September at 20.00 in the Drama back garden. A selection of their poems will be presented by Polona Juh, Maja Končar, Gorazd Logar and Rok Vihar. Tickets are available at the Drama box office. Book early to avoid disappointment.
