The 2022/23 season saw the successful launch of the Ars in Drama series of concerts, a successful collaboration between Radio Slovenia Ars Program and the SNT Drama Ljubljana that resulted in memorable evenings of outstanding jazz, chansons and theatre-related music. As a follow-up to the concert by Tadej Tomšič Institution which was a tribute to Urban Koder, the third concert in the series, entitled Such Color, will take place on Sunday, 5 March at 20.00. It will present a new album by the singer Mia Žnidarič and her life partner, pianist and composer Steve Klink.
At the Ars in Drama concert Mia Žnidarič will perform songs from her latest, 15th studio album, as well as several greatest hits from her brilliant music career, spanning more than three decades. The RTV Slovenija Big Band will be conducted by Steve Klink. He wrote all the songs and arrangements on the new album. Drums will be played by internationally acclaimed jazz drummer Gašper Bertoncelj.
Mia Žnidarič is a fixed star in the Slovenian jazz sky. This wonderful singer, who recently celebrated her 60th birthday, will perform for the first time on the Main Stage of the SNT Drama Ljubljana on 5 March. »She’s probably the first Slovenian singer who sings exclusively jazz music and has not succumbed to the fads of the day and profit-driven trends. She has long since won us over with a voice and renditions that are unique to her. Her sincerity, vibrant energy and commitment to true art invariably characterize her live performances and studio recordings. Her fan base consists of jazz lovers of all generations. Her repertoire includes jazz standards sung by Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and other masters of vocal jazz, as well as original compositions featuring lyrics by distinguished Slovenian poets, such as Janez Menart, Feri Lainšček, Svetlana Makarovič, Dušan Velkaverh and Milan Dekleva,« noted Hugo Šekoranja, the Jazz Editor of Radio Slovenia’s Ars Program and a program director of the Ars in Drama series. According to Šekoranja, Mia Žnidarič’s 15th album, Such Color, recorded with the RTV Slovenia Big Band, includes a dozen original tracks. It offers a whole range of subtle performances, highlighting Mia’s voice as the principal color of her new album. Her beautiful voice stirs us all deeply. Her songs have a touch of poignancy, joy, melancholy and hope.«
