In Ismene, a Sister of, an almost unknown ancient Greek heroine and her timeless, but contemporary personal story, are foregrounded. The play by the Dutch playwright Lot Vekemans tells a story of a woman, known for millennia as an unassuming Antigone’s sister, and Oedipus and Iocasta’s other daughter.

Ismene, a Sister of, is much more than a mere reinterpretation of familiar myths and stories of Oedipus and Antigone. In addition to the testimony of a woman who gets the right to her own views and her voice thousands of years after the events, this one-woman play is an invitation to reconsider the true nature of heroism. Is it really what it appears? Who decides what is generally praised as the »right thing«? And ultimately, what happens afterwards? »Does afterwards exist at all?« Everyone is the protagonist of their own story.

The play, directed by Igor Pison using his distinctive style, is performed by the actress Nikla Petruška Panizon with irony and insight.
