In his play, suggestively titled God (2020), the celebrated Berlin lawyer and writer Ferdinand von Schirach confronts us with an ethical dilemma that is topical also in Slovenia, namely medical aid in dying, or the so-called assisted suicide. Unlike the current debate in Slovenia, Schirach’s play does not question whether to legalise assisted suicide or not – in principle this is resolved already in the exposition of the play – but explores a dilemma whether a person should be aided in dying by a doctor.
