Anywhere Out of This World
28 and 29 January 2005
Anywhere Out of This World refers to the well-known short prose poem by Baudelaire where the poet probes his soul’s discontent and discovers that its thirst for a different world could only be satisfied by leaving reality of day-to-day behind. This romantic yearning appears to be strange and distant to the condition of the modern man – yet the unique group of successful scientists and businessman in Tadel’s play could not agree less with the notion. Bored and tired of this world, they decide to carve a new world for themselves, far from Earth and this reality. The idea – on the brink of lunacy and fantasia – turns out to be very much real and achievable for the happy few who have the means, the knowledge and connections. But, after all, nothing is as it seems in this world where money is king over truth and justice. And so the guest for Utopia turns in a thriller with a bitter end. This strange and piercing story by Boštjan Tadel is unique in the context of contemporary Slovenian drama.
